What is old is new again! Create your own RETRO BEADS!

Description:

Using bakeable polymer clay, you will be able to make various shaped beads to incorporate into your personally designed necklace and earring set. These simple to make but so delightful to wear beads will be made using white, black and your choice of colored clay. Easily extruded strands of clay which change color when being extruded will be combined to form a simple cane.

All supplies for making the polymer clay beads will be provided as well as tools, work surfaces and pasta machines. However, if you have your own, you are welcome to bring them. You will have a Makin’s Professional Clay Extruder and disks to use as well as a clay blade and needle tool. A handout will also be provided.

Other supplies which will be needed to complete the set at your convenience are your choice of an assortment of complementary beads in glass, metal , stone and/or crystals to create the length you want; a clasp, beading wire, crimp beads, jump rings or split rings, 2 head pins and earring findings. There will not be time to string the necklace during the class; however, you will be given ideas on how to design yours. Tools needed to complete the necklace and earrings are crimp pliers, round nosed pliers, wire cutters and chain nose pliers. A beading board is handy for designing, but not essential.

While baking the beads, you will be shown how to cover a tin to contain your beads with the remaining polymer clay Retro cane.

Pretend is in! FAUX RAKU Pendant and Beads

Raku is a Japanese ceramic technique which you will be replicating by using light weight Makin’s Air Dry Polymer Clay. Using the provided clay, you will create a two sided pendant using a mold and making your own accent beads. All supplies and tools to make the pendant and beads will be provided.

Additional supplies to complete the necklace and earring set at your convenience will be leopard skin jasper, antique copper beads, bicone crystals and coordinating glass tube beads. To make your necklace more versatile, use small lobster claws to attach each strand individually to a 3 strand necklace end. Also needed will be earring wires, 2 head pins and bead caps, beading wire and crimp beads. All findings should be in antique copper to coordinate well with your beads.

Tools to complete the necklace are crimp pliers, round nose pliers and wire cutters. A design board is helpful but not necessary.
